Your TNW Weekly Recap - 7/5/2026
July 6, 2026
Hope you had a great weekend and were able to have some fun! It feels like we are dodging either scorching hot temperatures or severe thunderstorms here in New Jersey. Honestly feels more like Florida than NJ right now!
During these heat waves it's important to remember those that are working on the warehouse floor which more often than not have no air conditioning. Product keeps moving and people still need to move it. For those that are on the floor, be sure to add extra breaks, provide plenty of hydration options (we used to bring in water, Gatorade and ice pops) and monitor their well-being.
No matter how much product you have to move by a specific deadline, it's not worth anyone getting heat exhaustion over it. Most importantly, make sure you are informing your staff on signs of heat exhaustion and what they should be doing to prevent it.
We are going to be working on some content around safety precautions in weather like this so I would love it if you could send me some of your tips around heat safety in the summer months. Just reply to this email and give me your best tip!
We've also got a few things coming up that I want to get on your radar:
Monday's Episode - RFID Delivers Real-Time Package Intelligence for UPS
Welcome to this episode of The New Warehouse Podcast. At Supply Chain Point 2026, Kevin spoke with Jon Bell, of UPS’s Advanced Technology Group, and Darryl Forbes, Vice President of Operational Technology at UPS. UPS delivers millions of packages every day, making visibility, reliability, and customer experience critical to success.
In this conversation, Bell and Forbes discuss how UPS is leveraging RFID technology to move beyond traditional package tracking and create what they describe as a smarter, more connected network. The discussion explores how RFID is improving visibility, reducing misloads, creating new customer touchpoints, and laying the foundation for predictive supply chain operations powered by real-time data.
Tuesday's Episode - SAVOYE on ASRS Shuttle Systems, Flexibility, Scaling & the Attabotics Partnership at MODEX 2026
At MODEX 2026, Kevin from The New Warehouse Podcast interviews Mike Rossie from SAVOYE about their role as a hybrid integrator and OEM delivering turnkey automated distribution systems. Mike explains that about half of SAVOYE’s work is pure integration using best-fit market equipment, while they also manufacture their own shuttle and associated goods-to-person equipment for high-throughput case and tote handling, with capability to support pallet shuttle systems. He describes SAVOYE as relatively new to the North American market (about six to seven years) and notes their designs are data-driven, using SAVOYE shuttles when the criteria fits and other equipment when it doesn’t. Mike discusses ASRS flexibility, emphasizing shuttle systems can handle changing order profiles, and outlines planning for scalability by starting with an end-state design and scaling back to current needs. He also shares how balancing inventory, throughput, and SKU fit is key, and highlights a partnership with Attabotics through an existing relationship with Lafayette Engineering to cover mid-to-lower throughput applications. He closes with advice to stay open-minded and reconsider long-standing processes when evaluating ASRS.

Thursday's Episode - Toyota Automated Logistics on ASRS Strategy, Integration-First Solutions & Lifecycle Support
Live from Modex 2026, Kevin interviews Andy Lockhart, Director of Strategic Engagement at the newly unified Toyota Automated Logistics, combining Vanderlande’s warehouse business unit, Bastian Solutions, and Viastore as of April 1, 2026. Andy explains how the new brand delivers an integrator-first approach—selecting the right solution for each operation by integrating third-party technologies or Toyota products as needed—plus full lifecycle support from design through long-term service (on-site support, hotline, spare parts) for 5–20+ years. He outlines Toyota’s ASRS capabilities across pallet shuttles and cranes, mini-loads, shuttles, and cube storage, and shares advice for operators considering ASRS: validate the business case, use MHI’s ASRS tools (mhi.org/asrs) to build ROI, understand end-to-end processes and data, and ask vendors questions tied to hours of operation, labor needs, and order speed requirements.
